HMO accommodation simply means House in Multiple Occupation which, is a building or part of a building that is occupied by 3 or more persons. Therefore, living as more than one household, where rent is paid or some other consideration is made. In order to protect tenants in HMOs from poor conditions, the government regulates the quality of the accommodation. To ensure:

How many HMO accommodation do we have?

Southern Bridges currently have 6 houses that have a HMO licence which covers 32 bed spaces. Indeed, all of our houses are modern and well furnished. As well as meeting the general standards for residential premises. To meet HMO regulations we must also achieve additional requirements for fire precaution, the provision of amenities, and steps to prevent overcrowding.

We have a number of trained, and professional staff who will be present in the HMO supported accommodation. Some of their role is to:

  • Hold house meetings to resolve any issues
  • Run drop in sessions
  • Meet residents individually to talk about housing related topics
  • Support with alcohol and substance misuse
  • Provide vocational and educational workshops
  • Provide person centred approach to support
  • Promotion of equal opportunities, fair access, diversity and inclusion
  • Refer residents to appropriate services
  • Help with emotional wellbeing
  • Support personal health, hygiene, personal safety and security
  • Help residents in claiming benefit entitlements
  • Promote access to statutory services through advocacy
  • Help lower the risk of residents re-offending
  • Encourage Independent living
  • Support on moving forward

Subsequently, Southern bridges provide a safe environment with an opportunity to access community support and friendship. Living in a HMO accommodation means residents can support each other as well as from their keyworker. Our housing provisions provide the right environment conditions for change, and integration back into the community.
