At Southern Bridges we believe that everybody needs stable accommodation, and a safe place to call home. Having a place to sleep, a chance to reintegrate into the local community, and a space to be proud of makes for a brighter, safer and better life. For many of our residents living in supported accommodation, moving on with their housing, can be a daunting prospect. This can be a significant milestone in a person’s recovery. Therefore, a successful transition from supported accommodation to independent living can be an incredibly powerful experience.

Once residents have completed their time with us, and are ready to move on with their housing. The next step is that we will provide support and guidance to help them in this transition.

How do we support residents moving on with their housing?

Southern Bridges will help plan our residents future in a structured way. We understand that it is normal to feel anxious and overwhelmed about the prospect of leaving the safety and security of supported housing. We will support residents with the skills needed to help to live more independently, and when ready, support moving on with their housing. How we do that is:

• Support each resident in their gradual transition from a structured supported living environment, towards an independent lifestyle
• Work together to agree with with every resident a support plan. To help them maintain good general health, abstinence, build on therapeutic experience, enjoy social outlets and, develop support mechanisms
• Offer continued support with self-development
• Support a residents commitment in terms of education and volunteering
• Prepare residents with independent living
